Tamika Cumro-Washington, MA, MFTC
Marriage & Family Therapist Candidate
Welcome! I am excited to explore the stories of individuals, couples, and families that shape their lives and uncover new possibilities for growth, connection, and meaning. I believe every person has the capacity to reshape their narrative and create richer, more fulfilling chapters in their relationships with themselves, others, and the world around them. My approach is grounded in the belief that the stories we tell about ourselves are powerful. Together, we will explore how your experiences, relationships, and cultural influences have shaped those stories. We will identify the narratives that may no longer serve you and work to create new ones that reflect your values, strengths, and aspirations. I believe people are far more than the challenges they face, and therapy can provide an opportunity to reconnect with your resilience, reclaim your voice, and move toward a life that feels more authentic and aligned with who you want to be.
I strive to create a brave, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where you can explore your experiences with curiosity and self compassion. By building on the strengths and resources you already possess, we can reframe challenges, uncover new perspectives, and create opportunities for growth and transformation. Taking a holistic view, I consider the emotional, relational, cultural, and systemic influences that shape your experiences and well being. As a lifelong learner, I remain committed to growing as a clinician and drawing from new ideas and evidence based practices to best support those I serve. Whether you are navigating life's challenges, seeking stronger relationships, exploring questions of identity, or striving for a deeper sense of purpose, I would be honored to walk alongside you as you create meaningful and lasting change.
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado and am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Couples and Family Therapy at the University of Colorado Denver. I come from a large biracial family with Puerto Rican and African American roots. As the youngest of four sisters and an aunt to seven nephews, family has always played an important role in my life. I identify as queer and am in a long term relationship with my partner. While we do not have children, we are proud pet parents to three cats, a bearded dragon, a tortoise, and plenty of fish. One day, we hope to have a small farm filled with ducks, chickens, goats, and cows.
Born and raised in Colorado Springs, I also grew up in a military family, which helped shape my appreciation for adaptability, connection, and the many ways people navigate change. Outside of work and school, I enjoy exploring new cuisines, visiting museums, spending time at zoos and animal sanctuaries, hiking, building Legos, playing video games, and engaging in arts and crafts. I love opportunities to learn, create, and connect with the people and experiences that bring meaning to life.
I look forward to supporting you as you explore your story, strengthen your relationships, and create a future that feels empowering, authentic, and uniquely your own.
