Dr. Courtney Barber, PsyD, LMFT, AAMFT-S
Psychologist, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, AAMFT Approved Supervisor
Providing therapy is not just my career, it is my passion. I believe that healing includes mental, emotional, and spiritual well being, and that true wellness begins within. Our experiences can shape us, but they do not have to define us. Everyone has the capacity to grow beyond the weight of the past and live with clarity and purpose.
I specialize in working with couples, families, and teens, both civilian and military. As an active duty military spouse, I understand the unique complexities of military life. Whether military or civilian, each family system brings its own dynamic, and I am here to help navigate challenges, strengthen relationships, and support lasting growth. Families thrive when their parts work in harmony. When that balance is disrupted, therapy can help restore connection and communication. I also have a strong background in working with teens, especially those who may be hesitant about therapy. Helping adolescents find clarity and direction, even when they initially struggle to engage, has been deeply meaningful in my work.
My approach is relational, collaborative, and tailored to each client’s goals. Clients often describe me as direct, genuine, and kind. I do not believe in a one size fits all approach. Instead, therapy is guided by the individual or family, focused on breaking unhealthy patterns, improving communication, and building the confidence to move forward. While therapy can be challenging, the work is worth it because you are worth it.
Beyond the therapy room, I am a military spouse and a mom of five (this includes two dogs). I am also a passionate advocate for mental health access and equity. Much of my work has centered on addressing the barriers that individuals and families face when trying to access care, especially within the military community. I speak openly about the systemic gaps that exist, including the limitations within TRICARE, and I remain committed to pushing for solutions that are both meaningful and lasting.
Your path to balance and peace begins with a single step. I am here to walk that with you.

What Clients are saying about Courtney....
"If you are in need of a counselor with excellent communication skills, empathy, problem solving, acceptance and diversity, multicultural competency, and flexibility, you are in great hands with Barber Family Counseling." -Anonymous Client
"This lady (Courtney) has counseled me off so many ledges I’ve lost count! She’s not only kind and empathetic, but able to really give practical tools and steps towards healing. It doesn’t feel like you’re talking to a doctor, but a friend.. and the office at Barber Family Counseling is simply beautiful."
-Anonymous Client
"Courtney is a wonderful coworker and cofacilitator. She is a very direct communicator, so I and clients never have to wonder what she is thinking. She is very helpful for clients who need structure, as she is comfortable being solution-focused and goal-oriented. Her clients individually and in groups see results! Especially with teens, she is wonderful with "resistant" clients because she is able to see through the facade, speak to the person's reality and draw out their own internal motivation to grow."

I prayed for a miracle and I believe that God sent us Courtney. She has a special gift that allows her to reach teens in a way that transforms their lives. I was completely at the end of my rope with my teen. My sweet, kind adorable baby had entered the dark realm of "teenhood", and I did not know how to handle it. Courtney was able to uncover the root of her anger and open the doors of communication for both of us. Courtney gave me hope, peace and my sweet baby girl back! She was the answer to my prayers. I will never be able to thank her enough.
-Anonymous Client
"Courtney has been my compass as I navigate through life. She is compassionate, professional, and truly cares about each of her clients. She tailors her approach to each client so you never feel like a case study, or that you are getting a “cookie cutter’’ treatment. Courtney is the first counselor that actually listened to me and addressed my concerns. I always feel better after I meet with her. She has truly been my life line, and I cannot recommend her enough!"
